Wanderings and Ramblings from West Michigan

Our travels, thoughts, and pictures. We like rocks, and birds, and flowers, and lighthouses, and turtles, and waterfalls, and sunsets, and lots of other stuff.

We left Ocean City and made it as far as the Fenwick Island Lighthouse. It is the oldest lighthouse in Delaware. We stood on the line between Maryland and Delaware. This was a disputed location that was ratified by King George III in 1769 and created the boundary between the Penns in Delaware and the Calverts in Maryland.

We made it a whole half of an hour before we needed to investigate Towers Beach. We climbed Fire Control Tower #3. These relics from WWII weren’t there to monitor any forest fires.

All that climbing made us thirsty, so we set our waypoint for Big Oyster Brewery. Android Auto claimed we were at Big Oyster Brewery, but we saw no sign of a brewpub, so we continued on to Cape Henlopen State Park. We saw a beautiful beach, a couple lighthouses, more fire control towers and evidence that the park had been a military installation.

On the way back to the main road, we found Big Oyster Brewery. It was set back from the road and only marked on the front of a large red barn. We were told that they had a sign at the road years ago, but it blew down and has not been replaced. The place was very nice inside. The beers were good and the 1/2 pound of steamed shrimp for happy hour hit the spot. They had a surprisingly large menu and I am willing to bet everything is excellent.
